Prayed for 1 time.

Jeff Holeman

Thank you so much for your prayer support over the past few weeks. We've seen the Father do some amazing things and your prayers are an integral part of all He is doing in our midst.

We shared some prayer requests with you a couple of weeks ago. Here are some updates:

Will you pray for more workers to be called out from Mexican churches in Mexico? It is amazing how the Father is working among those churches/believers with whom we partner. We are preparing to begin a Training Class for Mexican believers who sense a call to missions. How 'bout that? Amazing.

Will you pray for our teammate Ashley and the relationships she has made with nationals? Will you pray that God will call out more workers from this group? Several members of this group are wanting more training to help them reach out to their own people.

Every morning, from July 9 to July 24, will you pray that the Father would use the students attending camp to make an eternal difference in the lives of many people in Oaxaca? We had a phenomenal two weeks of Access International Camps. Every one of our ministry sites saw people beginning a relationship with Christ or coming One Step Closer to Him.

Will you pray for the tension between the teacher's union and the government would decrease and that peaceful solutions would be found to the conflict? Nothing has slowed down our work over the past few weeks. There has been a reduction in the number and intensity of the protests.

Will you pray for Haylee and Jackson as they grow close to our summer team only to see them get on airplanes and return to the USA? Haylee and Jackson served faithfully alongside our summer teams and developed some new friendships that have kept their social media tools buzzing.

Will you pray for our team of high school girls living in an unreached community until July 16? Pray for A, B, E, L, M, M, and N. This group of girls completed their assignment in a very TOUGH place. They have returned to the USA and we pray they will continue to serve faithfully there.

Will you pray that the village of 'T' will become less hostile to Christians and that we will find a way to share the Gospel in this community? While doing some business at a local store we met a young man from the 'T' village and we are following up on a potential great opportunity to work in the 'T' village. Only God can do this and your prayers are the catalyst.

Things slow down just a little bit in August before a busy September arrives. We will head to the Pacific Coast of Oaxaca in just a few days for a time of retreat with our teammates. We always look forward to these times. After that, we're back in Oaxaca and will be getting Jackson ready for 12th grade and Haylee ready to return for her sophomore year at Mississippi College. We also have two Hands On students coming in to work with our team. We would love to have you covering these events in prayer.

Thank you so much for 'holding the rope' through your prayer support, your giving to the Cooperative Program, and your support of the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering.

Jeff, Liesa, Haylee, and Jackson

Greetings from Guatemala! It is hot around here! It has been above 105 for the past several days now. We finally got our first rain on Monday afternoon. It helped cool things off for the moment. Rainy season officially begins this month and we are ready for some rain. Our area is so hot and dry. Many of the water sources that the locals depend on have dried up. We also need the rains to come so that their crops can grow. All of us with access to running water are so blessed. The majority of the people living in our world today do not have that simple pleasure. Many will walk long distances each day just to gather enough water to make it through the day. It is a sad reality and we see it first hand on a daily basis. Pray that the rains would come in abundance this year.

Our Bible studies are going great. We are steadily teaching each week. The group in Nearar is ready to move the study up to the top of the mountain where they can be more visible and accessible to the community as a whole. They have located a piece of land that is on the main mountain road that passes through the village and are making plans to purchase it in the near future. After that we will seek the Lord for the next steps in this process. Would you join us in praying for this move? There is little chance of growing our group from where we are currently meeting and being more centrally located would help greatly. It will still be a while before we can begin so join us in praying that all the details would fall into place.

Our Thursday afternoon study has been on the move lately. We have been rotating between houses in the villages of Muyurco, Porto Suelo, and Tular. We have people from each of these villages attending so we have been rotating our meeting place for several weeks. We had an older couple open their home to us in Porto Suelo to begin meeting. We met there two times and due to pressure from the locals they asked us to not return. He was an elderly man with some sickness and two weeks later he died. Would you pray for this family?

We had a great time celebrating Ben's birthday last month as well as a wonderful time of celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary. This month we will celebrate Cruz turning 6. We can hardly believe it! We will also finish up his kindergarten school year at the end of the month. We have had an amazing homeschool year and thank each of you who have covered our year in prayer. We are beyond blessed to have such wonderful people like you to pray for us. We cannot tell you enough just how precious those prayers are to us. Thank you for praying for our family. Thank you for writing and encouraging us. Thank you for giving and supporting the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering. Because you give and pray we can go and serve. We give God the praise in all of that. Until next time...

We have to return to the USA in July from our field of service in South Asia to renew our business visa. This formerly routine process has become the number one barrier for our workers to gain access to the country as the country has become more wary of Americans in general and especially more critical of Christians applying to work in the country. Please pray for grace and favor in this process.

Dear Prayer Family,

'These are exciting days!' A dear friend of mine uses this phrase frequently as he faces the challenges of ministry. Back several years ago in my other life on the staff of First Baptist Church Oxford I could count on Robert Allen to use that phrase at some of the most stressful times and on some of the darkest days. It was certainly comic relief but also reminded me that God is in control. As Liesa and I have walked through the past few months with the IMB we have both used the 'these are exciting days' phrase.

I don't know of any other time in our lives when things in our work have been more stressful. We have watched as dear friends have left their missionary posts to return to the USA. We have wrestled with our own call trying to decide where the Father can most effectively use us. The Father has used His Word, His people, and His timing to confirm that, for now, serving with the IMB is where we can best be used by Him.

In just a few short weeks we will once again leave our home base in Oxford, MS and obey the leading of the Lord. The emphasis here is on 'obey' and not 'leave.' There are folks much more committed to obeying the Father than we are that we are leaving behind right here in Oxford. So, leaving is BIG but obedience is so much BIGGER. This is our third time to 'leave' for the mission field but this time is so different in several ways.

First, we return to the mission field knowing familiar faces will not be there. Second, we return to the mission field leaving Haylee behind in the USA in college. And, we return to the mission field knowing that our work will be different in the days ahead. It seems that every time we get in a groove in our work as missionaries that things change and we have to reset and restart. It's really getting old.

This year my focus verse has been Proverbs 3:5-6 and the word I continue to turn to is the word 'Trust'. I must trust Him. Trusting the Lord always will mean an encounter with Him that will force me to lay down my agenda for His. I am trusting Him to lead. I'm trusting Him to use us. I'm trusting Him to answer the questions and fill in the blanks about the future.

We need your prayers. The task before us over the next few months is a huge one. We desperately need you to pray for us to have wisdom and discernment. We believe God is up to something BIG in our world and we want to be a part of that. We need the courage and willingness to adjust our lives to what God has planned. It will be painful but it will be so good. Will you pray for us? Most of all, will you pray that those in our world who do not know Him will hear and understand the Gospel?

Thank you for your prayer support. We need you now more than ever.

Trusting Him,

Jeff, Liesa, Haylee, and Jackson

Greetings from Guatemala! It's full steam ahead as we do our part to help advance the gospel here in Eastern Guatemala. We are continuing our weekly Bible study times and they are going well. Please continue to lift our Bible study times up in prayer. We are in Muyurco every Thursday afternoon. We have Bible study in Lagunetas every other Saturday morning, and David leads Bible study in Nearar every Sunday morning. We are excited about getting the Bible study with the school kids in Tunuco Arriba back going this month. We will start again there on March 9th. Please be praying for this Bible study that will take place every Wednesday morning in the village school. Pray for us as we prepare and teach on a weekly basis in these areas. Pray for us as we travel up and down the mountain roads many hours each week. Pray for the people that God puts in our paths along the way. Pray that our witness would be bold and strong with them. Pray that many would put their faith and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ as a result of having the gospel shared with them.

We had a wonderful week hosting a group from LifePark Church in Mount Pleasant, SC. They were the first of three teams that this church is sending down to work with us this year. We partnered with a local Baptist pastor, Bro. Elias, and did a one day leadership training conference at his church for any local pastors and leaders. We had a great turnout and felt like the Lord's blessing was on the day. The team spent two days in the village of Lagunetas. We were given permission to be in the school and teach the kids Bible stories during their recess time. In addition to the Bible stories the team sang Bible songs and played games with them. In the afternoons the team made home visits. They prayed for the needs of the people in the homes and shared testimonies and Bible stories with them. On our last ministry day we spent the morning in the village of Churischan encouraging a family of believers there. Then in the afternoon the team joined us at our weekly Bible study in the village of Muyurco. We covered a lot of ground in a week and felt that a lot of opportunities were open for us to return and share the Gospel.

I have not mentioned it in a while but our homeschooling is going well. I know that many of you pray for that on a regular basis and we appreciate it. It has been a joy to see Cruz begin to read and watching him learn has been a blessing to us both. Pray for us as we balance school, family life, and ministry. As you can imagine it can get a little crazy at times.

March will find us mostly focusing on our weekly Bible studies and doing follow-up from our recent team. We are looking forward to hosting some friends from home for a Spring Break fun week. We are also looking forward to celebrating the Easter season and sharing about the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Because He lives we can face tomorrow. What an encouraging word we get to share. Pray that we would share it well! Until next time...

11 October 2015 Update! Greetings from Oxford, Mississippi!

We have finished up two months of our Stateside Assignment in the USA. Stateside Assignment is time for missionaries to come off their field of service and get reconnected with family/friends, recharge their faith, and advocate for our financial support (Cooperative Program and Lottie Moon Christmas Offering). We are blessed that our sending church, First Baptist Oxford, MS, is taking such great care of us while we spend about 10 months in the USA. We will return to the field near the end of May 2016. We are very much enjoying our time with friends and family.

Thank you all for praying. We are certainly staying busy! Haylee is doing great at Mississippi College and Jackson is settling in to life as a high school junior at Oxford High School. Liesa and Jeff are busy serving in various ways in our church and community and also speaking at several churches. We appreciate your prayers!

We've got a busy few weeks ahead! Please join us in praying for:

Jackson is a busy young man! School, Football, Soccer coming up, church, friends. Lots of things that are competing for his time. Pray for him to manage it all well. Haylee is at Mississippi College and is learning how all of the college life stuff works. Pray for her to continue to excel as a college freshman. Liesa is working at a local elementary school with immigrant kids who are transitioning to the language and culture of Mississippi. She's loving what she is doing. Pray for opportunities to build relationships with the mothers of these students. Jeff is helping out at First Baptist Oxford as Missionary in Residence. This involves a lot of things but the priority is helping out with the mission focus of the church. FBC Oxford is one of those churches that has the potential to literally touch a huge part of our world. Pray for this great church! We have some important events coming up that you can pray for: October 26. Baptist Campus Ministry at McNeese State University. November 9. First Baptist Meridian WMU. November 15. First Baptist Kosciusko, MS. November 17. Ole Miss Baptist Student Union. November 28 to December 4. Americas Affinity Meeting. December 11 to 14. Koinos Fellowship in Troy, OH. Thank you all for your prayer support and your financial support through the Cooperative Program and the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering.

Greetings from Guatemala! July was a busy month for us. We were able to lead 14 Bible studies. Praise the Lord for so many opportunities to teach the Bible! Our time at the school in Tunuco Arriba came to a close for the school year. We had a great closing service there with them and have an open door to return again when the new school year starts next January. Thank you for praying for that weekly Wednesday morning time. We ask your continued prayers for that village and those precious children that we got to know over the past several months.

David preached his first funeral in Guatemala recently. It was for a four month old baby boy in the village of Muyruco named David. It was one of the hardest things we have been a part of but we are thankful for the opportunity we had to love on and encourage the family. Please keep this family in your prayers as they mourn the death of their child.

In between the village of Nearar and Muyurco is the village of Porto Suelo. There have been many there who have accepted Christ over the last several weeks. They are attending our Bible study in Muyurco on Thursday afternoons most having to hike over an hour to get there. Pray with us as we try to get a Bible study going in that village for the new believers there. God is working in this area. These are three large villages that we are targeting all along the same mountain road. Pray for the believers in this area to stay strong in their faith and grow daily in their walk with Christ. This is a very spiritually dark area and it is easy for the new believers to get discouraged. Pray for us as we teach and disciple them.

We ended the month by hosting a team from First Baptist Church Mount Pleasant, SC. They spent 2.5 days in the village of Chanco prayer walking, doing door to door evangelism, and working with the children in the school. They spent one afternoon prayer walking and visiting in the neighboring village of Corral de Piedras. This is a new village we would like to begin working in and made some good contacts that day. Pray for our follow up time there to be fruitful. We had a discipleship teaching time/ service with the believers in the village of Nearar and were able to encourage them and love on them. We ended the week with a great service in the village of Muyurco. We had around 50 gathered together outside on a dirt patio praising the Lord together. It was a wonderful way to close out our time in the villages with the team.

Cruz finished up his time in Spanish school recently and we will begin K5 homeschool this month with him. Pray for us as we embark on this new adventure. Pray for me as I begin this new role as teacher that I would find a good balance between school, ministry, and family life. It will be a lot to juggle until I find my groove so please lift me up in prayer as we begin.

We will continue our Bible studies this month in the villages of Nearar, Lagunetas, and Muyurco. We plan to make visits and do follow up in the villages of Chanco, Corral de Piedres, and Churischan. Pray for us this month as we travel out and share Christ in our work area. Pray for each of these villages and the precious folks who live there. Your prayers are making a difference here and you become a vital part of our ministry when you pray. Until next time...

Greetings from Guatemala! We began the month of June at a Prayer Retreat with a few other IMB missionary families. It was a great time of fellowship and refreshing for us all. Soon afterward we hosted a vision team from LifePark Church in Mount Pleasant, SC. We spent our time together visiting in each of the villages that we are currently targeting with the hopes of them catching a vision to help us reach the lost in those areas. We had a great week together and as a result we have entered into a partnership with them. They will be sending their first team down to work with us in November and they have three teams scheduled already for 2016. We look forward to seeing how the Lord is going to work through us all in the months ahead. We took some time off to celebrate Father's Day and then ended the month attending a training conference that was held in our work area by some fellow IMB colleagues. We were learning about working with and partnering with our U.S. Southern Baptist churches. It was a great time of fellowship and growing together as a mission family.

We continued with our regular Bible studies during the month of June and have a full schedule of study times lined up for July. We begin the month with our regular Wednesday study today in the village of Tunuco Arriba.
If you would like to pray for our Bible study times on a weekly basis here is a look at our typical schedule: Sunday- pray for Bible study in Nearar Wednesday- pray for Bible study in Tunuco Arriba Thursday- pray for Bible study in Muyurco Saturday- pray for Bible study in Lagunetas On Tuesdays David generally tries to make visits both in the areas that we are currently targeting and in new areas also. Pray for him as he is out encouraging and trying to get open doors into new places. On Monday and Friday you can pray for Chanco, Churischan, and Tarshaja. These are villages that we are targeting but currently have no on-going Bible studies lined up. Your prayers would be greatly appreciated for us as we travel and teach and for the hearts of the people that we share with on a regular basis.

We will end the month by hosting a team from First Baptist Church, Mount Pleasant, SC. They will be working with us in the village of Chanco. Begin praying now that God would do a great work through us all that week.

The work here is slow but we are continuing to do our part to plant seeds and share the Gospel. We know that in God's perfect timing a great harvest will take place here. Would you join us in praying for the people of Eastern Guatemala? Your prayers could be the difference in someones life here being changed for eternity. Until next time...
